When I first got hip to markers in art school I really had no idea what I could do with them other than "go for realism". It's what we were taught. Accurate marker renderings of products and comps on marker paper. It wasn't until many years later after working in screenprinting and graphic design agencies that I realized markers were a lot like watercolor. Except they left you a lot more light-headed.
This was just some derivative character I came up with at a local Drink 'n' Draw I go to.

Markers are cool, I have seen some amazing illustrated (non realism) done with them. I like using the Copic Sketch grays and then coloring the result in Photoshop. Color with them is so much harder!
